Expanse Medical Strengthens Its Rhode Island Team with Clinical and Engineering Hires
Three new team members deepen the venture studio’s full-cycle device development capability on the East Coast
PROVIDENCE, R.I. and PLEASANTON, Calif., Jun. 5, 2026 — Expanse Medical, the engineering-first medtech venture studio, today announced three new hires at its Providence, Rhode Island facility, spanning clinical affairs and R&D. The additions reflect the company’s continued growth in the region and deepen the capability that defines its model — taking devices from first-principles engineering through clinical evidence, regulatory approval, and product transfer.
“With these new hires and the support of Expanse’s medtech development platform, we are accelerating execution,” said Eitan Konstantino, PhD, CEO of Expanse Medical. “Valorian is tackling one of the largest underserved populations in men’s health: men with erectile dysfunction who cannot take or do not respond well to PDE5 inhibitors.”
Michael Tricoli — Clinical Affairs Director. Tricoli brings more than 18 years of clinical affairs leadership across Class II and III medical devices, with deep expertise in vascular and neurovascular platforms. He joins Expanse from Vicarious Surgical, where he served as Vice President of Regulatory, Quality, and Clinical Affairs, and previously held clinical leadership roles at Philips Healthcare, Medrobotics, and Atrium Medical/Maquet Getinge. Over his career he has authored First-in-Human and pivotal IDE trial protocols, led FDA Q-Submission engagements, and supported CE Mark, 510(k), and PMA programs. At Expanse, he will lead clinical affairs across the portfolio. He holds an MBA from Northeastern University and a BS in Biology/Pre-Medicine from William Paterson University.
Mark Ellis — R&D Program Manager. Ellis joined Expanse in January 2026, bringing nearly two decades of engineering, process development, and program management experience across medical device and life-science product development. He has led device technology transfers and new product introductions, most recently in process development at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, with earlier roles at DePuy Synthes (Johnson & Johnson) and TE Connectivity. His work bridges the de-risk and transfer phases of Expanse’s development model: design controls, manufacturing readiness, and disciplined program execution. He holds an MS in Engineering Management from Tufts University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Chloe Guo — R&D Engineer. Guo joins as a dedicated R&D engineer for Valorian Medical Technologies, an Expanse spinout advancing a next-generation device platform for erectile dysfunction. A biomedical and mechanical engineer trained in medtech biodesign, she holds a Master of Engineering in Bioengineering (Global Medical Innovation) from Rice University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Brown University. Her experience spans device design, prototyping, verification and validation, and ISO 13485 design controls across cardiovascular and implant programs.
When Expanse established its Providence facility in late 2025 with support from the Rhode Island Life Science Hub, it described the site as a place to connect engineering talent, clinicians, and investors. These hires put that vision into practice. With clinical, program management, and dedicated venture engineering now in place, Expanse is positioned to advance more programs in parallel as it continues to grow its presence in Rhode Island.
